Hallo there!
Okay, so today was my first day of physical therapy. Thankfully it wasn't as painful as I expected it to be. At the beginning of the session I was at 100 degrees of motion in my knee with it being about 20 degrees from straight, and by the end I was about 10 degrees from straight. Normal knees have about 130 to 140 degrees of motions. Before the surgery they want me to have 120 degrees of movement and it would be best if i could straighten my leg. Having the most motion as possible is important before the surgery because the more range of motion I have going in to surgery the more I will have coming out/the better my knee will be healing. The physical therapist gave me a few exercises to do at home and I will go back in on Thursday.
As of now, my surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday, only a week from today!! Oh boy. What I know of the surgery is that they are going to be grafting cells on to my acl. They can take the cells from a few places, the ligament over my knee cap, my hamstring, or from cadaver. (Dead persons ligament cells? hmm, don't know about that one. No offense) Also from what I've heard I may not be put under anesthesia. That's an intimidating thought! But, even considering that I'm not too worried about the surgery. I'm most dreading the IV. That's just sad......ha. Anyway, Friday I get to go talk to the doctor and figure all of this stuff out.
This past weekend I went up to Aspen to watch the women's world cup slalom. And believe it or not I was not the only one there on crutches.
Well that's about all I got for now. Thanks for reading, hasta luego!
